Mel Oliver

This artist portfolio explores queerness and suburban mundanity through a lens of environmentalism, memory, isolation, and grief. Mel’s film-based work studies—landscapes, portraits, and geometric forms—offers a poetic blend of research into self and documentation of the queer- suburban-gaze. These images serve as momentary witnesses: a personal archive tracing the impermanence of memory, the fragility of ecosystems, and the layered solitude and beauty of queer life beyond lifestyle but into the gaze of a black lesbian.
